I am writing to thank you for your generous monthly donation to the English Martyrs Leicester Development Trust during the last year.
This has been a strange year for all of us, but I would like to reassure you that the work of the Trust has carried on quietly supporting our young people. Our income has continued to grow and at the end of the financial year on 31st March, the Trust had raised £12,490 during 2019-2020.
The charity has supported a number of projects for our young people.
During this year we invested significantly in new Football kit for our Boys’ and Girls’ teams which was put to good use in the football season and really smartened up our team presentation.
We purchased an engineering kit to enable a group of students in the Sixth Form to build and fly a drone. These students have gone on to study engineering at university.
We supported 5 students who visited Naples as part of the Erasmus programme to extend their stay in order to visit Rome, where as well as further sightseeing they attended the Canonisation of England’s newest saint St John Henry Newman: the students were seated just 10 rows from Pope Francis and met Cardinal Nichols.
We subsidised music lessons for beginner brass players. We now have a thriving group of new players and an excellent Sixth Form Jazz band.
We part funded the purchase of a reading book for every member of Year 7 encouraging a love of reading. This is a significant contribution to the school’s literacy strategy.
We had also planned to make a major investment in a trampoline but as this equipment cannot be used in present time we are reviewing this project.
We wish to thank you for your commitment to the charity which has enabled these projects to happen.
Should you know of other people who would like to give a one-off gift or make a regular donation of £5 or more to our cause, please do encourage them. I enclose a leaflet giving details and Mrs Loakes, Business Manager at the school, will be happy to give additional help if needed.
Thank you once again, for your support of students which helps us to build a better school.
